The painting depicts the view outside my bedroom window. Done in the last weeks of 2021, it serves as a mirror more than a window, a reflection of my internal state at the time. It reads to me as cynical and guarded; the edges of the sky fall just short of the window frame, betraying the illusion of depth, revealing the surface-ness of the painting - all that lies beneath is the bare canvas. And the exaggerated hardship found in the carcass of a car, where there isn't one. And the smudged brown swirls inside the frame suggest the person wanted a clearer view, but not enough for full transparency both ways.
